I'm curious about what a sine bar would be used for in engineering, does anyone use one in their daily work ?
Thats good to hear. Tapered shims ?!
I use them regularly at work, they are not relics of the past yet.
We use them to set up work on the surface grinder particularly when grinding shims to a taper.
They make what at first impressions seems like a challenging task very simple.
Here's one for you then: if you had a bit of steel bar, you could set it up in a mill (flycutter, I guess) to put a curved face of 440mm radius on it... but could you then surface grind that radiused face to get the machining marks out, without affecting the radius of curvature?
Easy peasy - just use a 880mm diameter grinding wheel
Umm, how do you cut an outside radius with a flycutter?
