Sill replacement cost

Mods please feel free to move this to another part of the forum if this is in the wrong place.

I'm trying to get a rough ball park figure to have an inner & outer sill replaced on a classic Ford,i can weld a bit but never done any on a car & to be honest i'm not sure i have the skill to do anything structural like a sill myself.I can get the panels myself so it's just the labour i'm needing an idea of

what ford is it mate? maybe worth looking at a specific forum to see what others have paid and any other mods it may need at the same time

It depends really, is the sill fully welded in or just spot welded ?

what the rest of the car like ? if you removed the sill will the metal underneath it be ok to weld to, Would you want it painted as well and the inside of the sill cleaned up etc etc

It's a 1961 Ford consul,not sure what the rest of the condition is apart from the rear arches need doing too.I don't actually have the car yet it will be here at the weekend so i'm not sure if the sills are spot welded or seam welded but i would guess seam

are you wanting an A1 job or something that will be sound for years to come?
if your wanting an A1 job then expect to pay top money, for a local garage jobbie then expect 2-300 notes for both sides.
i've done work on old escorts, a manta, mini's etc but dont have time to do any at the minute, but i could give you my mates number who'd sort it for you. pm me if your interested

Hi,
Depends how much time & effort you want to spend...

Quickest (and chapest) option is cover sills - solid and legal but it means you are sealing the existing rust inside the chassis
Plan B is to cut the sill out (complete or just the rusty section), then fit a new panel.

I ended up cutting the old sill off one side, and the rear section off the other side.
Used a pair of cover sills as "true" sills to replace the cut-out bits.

Love the 60s Fords, have had a mix of Anglia/Consul/Cortina etc.
If you're lucky it might "just" need a sill and arch but be prepared for inner & outer sills, arches, rear hangers, stut tops, and wing repair panels (as complete wings are expensive and/or not available)
Well worth it when it's done, and you should get plenty of practice at welding

Learned to weld with 0xy by putting new sills onto a Cortina, was getting tidy welds by the time both sides were done
Recently migged new sills onto the Hilman "Daily driver", was out of practice but soon got back to normal.

You could try one of the more popular 60's Ford sites for info & names of decent suppliers.
I normally start with Hadrian Panels (they do very cheap H4 headlights too )

Get yourself a back copy of classic ford they recently did a feature on a guy that rebuilt one from heart beat! the editor may pass your details on to the chap so you can find those hard to get bits, im a big ford fan and try to keep as many on the road or safely tucked up in garages as i can!!

Fluff66uk not sure if you have car yet? Is it a consul classic or capri? if capri or 2 door classic the pics of mine might help / guide you. On my capri I found the rot behind the outer wing when working on the jacking point and inner sill. The cause is I belive that water runs down the rear windows, down the inside of wing and onto the ledge where the two drain tubes that go right through the sill shoul drain it. But if blocked will allow water builup and rusting. When I have been rebuilding this section I have made a point of fitting new lengths of tube. I have been making up the parts I have needed but noted that the sills are spoted on, but parts hidden by rear wing. Mines taking longer than I had hoped cos of work
