Hi All,
I'm in the planning stages for a gate project that I've wanted to do for ages and am after a bit of advise. I've been playing around in Sketchup and this is my first draft of what I want to do.
I currently have two oak posts where the existing gates are attached to. I was planning to attach 50 mm angled steel 3mm thick to these posts so I can weld on hinges. The gate frames will be 25 x 50mm steel 2mm thick. I was planning to weld 25mm x 3 mm flat steel plate to attach composite cladding to the gate (going for the low maintenance option).
Does anyone have any recommendations for weld on hinges. what sizes would you recommend to support this size of gate? Do the steel dimensions seem sensible for this project? I need to work out the exact thickness of whatever hinge i use as this will determine the exact size of the gate.
Do you think I would need any diagonal bracing?
Cheers
James
