Mid 70s dB is what? like a vacuum cleaner/washing machine etc? The bit that the gubberment conveniently left out of that is how the noise is measured i.e. a drive by from some distance at a set speed that the manufacturers knew about...
100is LOUD MX and enduro bikes are test to 94db and 1 meter
This is what I want to do
No probs with MOT guy just wondered if the police would have an issue ?
I didn't realise plod were actually measuring things but numbers alone are still pretty much meaningless. Distance, direction and speed (for a drive by) or rpm (static) have a massive effect. A driveby test from the pavement for example... a near side exit exhaust is gonna be worse than an offside exit.
In practice you've got to draw attention to yourself first... i know plenty of people (myself included) that own 'kin loud cars/bikes* and get left alone by plod but 1) as Phillip they're a 'nice' loud rather than fart cannons/twist & go scooters with an empty exhaust and 2) the owners don't buzz up and down residential roads late at night stamping on the loud pedal
*type/style makes a big difference... old bike, big single/twin = plod less interested than a sports bike. Old car, nothing/next to nothing in the way of silencing with a big V8/turbo charged beetle etc = plod not really interested, corsa with a fart cannon and they're queing up...

I have to say, if that's not illegal for road use then it should be!
Exiting that high on the pavement side?
Those tyres look like they're way outside the arches too.
Course, if that's purely an off-roader then I suppose anything goes.
I think I will be putting it lower, roughly about the same height as the indicator or maybe lower.
I've seen some exiting through the rear panel, have you considered that?
Doh! From the laughter i'm guessing you still got away with a rollocking or did you just accept the FPN like a man?The Police do carry noise meters these days, don't ask how i know![]()

Granted it was a few years ago & i was lucky in that i got a couple of older traffic guys instead of spotty little jobsworths but noone seemed bothered about the noise, lack of a front plate & rear reflectors when i last got tugged... leaving a petrol station 'enthusiastically' turned out the headlights in the distance weren't a random car... a chat about no right turn signs still applying late at nightand my enthusiasm, a longer chat about old/interesting cars and i was on my way
Found this dating from 2010... http://assets.dft.gov.uk/publications/trl-report-ppr506-proposals-for-in-service-exhaust-noise-testing/trlreportexhaustnoisetesting.pdf and there's a kinda cliff notes version here... http://www.the-ace.org.uk/loud-exhausts-cost-cash/
^^That's the biggest problem with the police these days. They forget it's not their place to interpret the law.
