Shroud size

Still a bit confused here:

Welding 1.2 mm stainless, 1.6 tungsten, 1.6 316L filler rod, 7 lpm gas flow, pure Argon, Amps to suit the weld geometry.

So what size shroud should I be using?

I have size 5,6,7 available.

Can someone explain what the advantages of using a "gas lens" is?

Gas lens demo... http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=148488&postcount=4 pics say it all really, more laminar flow = better shielding. Sometimes it makes no practical difference (say a downhand fillet weld where the argon naturally pools) other times it makes a noticable difference... drafts, outside corners (where the argon is flowing away from the weld rather than pooling), needing more stickout to reach the weld/see what you're doing.

You haven't told us what the weld geometry is but i'd use a #7 on a gas lens regardless. Someone else might use a #4 or 5 for a fillet and a #5, 6 or 7 for a butt. Neither of us would be right or wrong if we produced 'the goods' and you can still produce a grey, manky mess with either set up
