what were the reasons you can't do a wet room floor?

could run dpm on the floor (and into the drain), slate tiles over that?

would need some kind of break in the slate over the door threshold...

tho if it's one of those things you just want it done and out of the way I guess it makes no difference anyway

the shower try like that I fitted had a little up stand on one end and one side, so that was flush to the wall and then the wall tiles overlapped it a bit


no idea about those wall sheets, I've never used them.... if you were sing tiles I'd say get small ones, they hide uneven stuff better than big ones

you can create a wt room rather easily but look into a floating floor

if you look between the pics if you adjust the room slightly you can have a full bathroom in that space

just move your new wall to the other side of the pump

The wall cannot be moved.

The space to the right of the door is slightly greater than 800 x 1000 (ie an 800x1000 tray would fit fine)

The fall of the soil pipe is from right to left.

As stated, the only thing upstream of this area is a washing machine.

The reasons given (here) were that you had to have a sub floor tray which you then tiled, and it just seemed simpler to fit a preformed slate effect tray.

I think some here were also shocked at the idea of using slate.


I just figured I could get one of those plastic slate effect things and set it so as the finished slate surface was level with the shower tray surface and it would be "level" across the room, but maybe that's not how they work?

It's a small area so we wanted the "wet room" thing of there not being level changes across the floor - so the space was not so broken up.

Here are some shots with the laser.

You can see there's loads of fall on the soil pipe from right to left.

The finished floor will, ideally, be around the same sort of height as the laser line in the photo. It can go higher but the step on just gets higher and there's not loads of headroom to burn.

the toilet side looks wider than the right side shower side so you could turn the toilet depending on the size of room

high tanks allow for the pot to go further back so remember that

you have a through drain by the look of it you will need a tee and also a soil reducer ( soil to waste reducer ) shower waste is far away from the drain itself so you can fit a trap and a bit of pipe

In your first post, you queried how to fit the tray. I don't see why you'd have to deviate from the manufacturers instructions in order to fit it flush with the floor;

I'm always a bit mindful, when concreting stuff in, about future maintenance. I don't know what that means in this situation. But future you may thank present you for any things you do now that make replacement of the tray less painful.

It's probably easier to fix up the shower tray, then fill the rest of the room to it's level (minus whatever thickness for tiles/whatever)

Also, whatever wall coverings you do go for, spend the time now getting the walls as square and plumb as you can. Even if that means sistering studwork or building a small frame over any solid walls.

if that shower tray is about the size of the space anyway, and you lay it in the floor so it's about level with the slate then it'll pretty much be a wet room anyway?

the one in your link looks pretty flat, which worries me a bit... I think they normally have a bit of a raised section around the edge?

I'd be a bit worried that you'd be in the shower with your foot on the drain so it fills up and starts spreading out across the floor?


our 'kind of almost wet room' shower, if you have it on and you're not in there the water comes down and hits directly on the drain... which weirdly makes it drain slower (must be the splashing) and it'll start to spread out across the bathroom

for walls (because I have no experience of those big sheets) we lined my brothers walls with waterproof backer board, tape over the joins then paint over that, probably a bit overkill, but we could see the back side of the plasterboard for a while and no matter what we did we couldn't make it damp


EDIT: totally missed where you asked about fitting it

pretty much just hole under where the drain will be (with plenty of slack) fit the drain in there, put down a bed of mortar and sit the tray ontop

you can use fancy silicone instead if you want
