Not a fan of chrome personally. With the light blue, I think they tend to use it on some hire equipment. On the colour front though, I am fairly limited in what I like personally. Brunswick Green and this Wine Red are the only two I've used so far which have really rocked my boat. I tend to be a bit of a finnicky devil where colour is concerned. I either love it or don't use it again once the tin is gone.

Brunswick green is nice
. Looking at the pictures again, I'm thinking it might be the way the camera picks up the colour, a darker red would look better in my mind but it might be that it is a darker red and the camera makes it look lighter.

Good choice to leave that one as is. No notable corrosion, and no 'paint chucked at it' secondary paint job makes them a good candidate for being left as is. The finish still nicely befits the vice.
Some things just beg to be left untouched or merely cleaned, IMHO, and that's one of them.

Maker, you may prefer the look of this one to my burgundy redo's. 
Finally got a hold of my personal vice Unicorn the other week; A Ball Base. The obligatory before photo's.
Stripped and derusted it, (the body was rusted to the ball, the slide was very stiff to operate and the swivel handle was stuck solid, so a thorough derusting was necessary), but this one just didn't seem to suit a paint finish, in my mind. Neither could I envisage just straight Linseed oil giving a suitable appearance, as that would have left the metal looking quite bright, so a different tack was applied to this one.

. How did you strip and de-rust? I might have to do it to my No.6That ball base vice is very cute!
I decided to make a set of jaw covers for my record no 6.
Up to now I had been using an old pair of record fibre grips that are sitting on the vice. I rescued them from the bin at work over 10 years ago and they are now in pretty bad shape!
The new ones are made from aluminium angle cut & bent to fit the jaws. I used the opportunity to practice using the HTS2000 alloy welding rods to weld the corners of the covers.
They say in the instructions you can use a blowlamp but even using a mapp gas one I couldn't get the joint hot enough. Instead I use my oxy-propane set with a welding nozzle. It gives you a hotter but finer and more controllable flame but you have to be very careful not to melt the aluminium!

That's not one which I can personally place, but it doesn't strike me as an obvious import either. No chrome, the cast appears decent quality, (from what I can see), etc. If that is an import, I'd be guessing an older one and likely better quality than the current fare.
