I have left them assembled wire brush, evaporust and a buff. Similarly I have taken slight bends out the lever by just sliding the vice screw out the way:A little Record I'm refurbishing.
How do I remove the 'tommy bar' to straighten, polish and replate it?
Are the ends press fit and need lots of heat to remove? Screwed on? Friction welded on and not removable? Forged in-situ? Magic?

If you polish the end of the tommy bar really well you should be able to see if it's a peened over connection. I know my Record 75 has a screwed on end, but they are ball shaped, the type on your vice look more likely to be peened over.
The tommy bar of the 74 has a screw fit at one end
Didn't notice that on my Auto-Vice, will have to have a look. The tommy bar of the 74 has a screw fit at one end
Look for GPO stamps on the fixed jaw, by the fixings holes. Underneath and on thefront face.Saw this on Gumtree - Parky 8.
Nice - mostly still retaining the original Parky Red paint!

Don't ever remenber seeing them on RN ships. We certainly didn't have them in our ME workshops.Filed patent in 1928 and in the 1930's becomes the MOD's standard workholding tool according to their website. A friend of mine acquired a brand new one when he left the REME, he mentioned they had one in every mobile workshop.
We had records on ours. The type 12's had a few Wodens.Don't ever remenber seeing them on RN ships. We certainly didn't have them in our ME workshops.
They were scapping the Whitby as I was in the second year of my apprentiship, worked in the Torquays boiler room when she was the navigation training ship . Worked on most classes up to the Dukes and all I remember using were Records both onboard and onshore. We had records on ours. The type 12's had a few Wodens.
Chatham Had a few swindons. Didn't see any in the others.
But MOD took over a lot of WD, cival defence and the underground stores. That were that they are The MOD part come from.
In the 1970's, early 80's in Berlin you could see USSR Trucks with a clear record coppy on the bumber.
Nice!HEADS UP !
For anyone here interested, there's a Vono Number 4 Vice currently on the bay of evil. Item # 2556 3711 3478
Usual disclaimer, nothing to do with me. Don't see these come up often.
My interest has run its course, I'm not acquiring any more vises/vices.Nice!

One bid already
I mount my 74 and 75 with the two bolts nearest the edge of the bench. This means the rear jaw is in line with the bench edge allowing longer or oddly shaped pieces to be held.I have left them assembled wire brush, evaporust and a buff. This one was worse than it looks in the picture:
