I sold the bench to my brother and built a new one



And this winter his plan is to sell it on again, and build one similar to mine.

Nothing to do with me, but for anyone who might be interested, I noticed there is a large 10" jaw Blacksmith's Leg Vice currently offered on ebay; item # 264839845363

Wife spotted this on ebay while looking on a "see other items" list. Misspelled as Swinders, it doesn't show up when you type in Swindens vice.
Again, nothing to do with me, but thought I'd give anyone interested here a heads up. Item # 124308496984

First post here so hello everyone, started welding a while back when my car needed new jacking points and haven’t stopped since. Been picking up bits and bobs and my latest project was this little Paramo No 2 picked up for a tenner at a car boot. Waiting for steel to make the jaws but as you can see from the photos it had a bit of abuse in its former life, this is after a quick clean up and where I’m at now with it.

I’ll be using this one myself and it won’t get lots of abuse so as long as the weld holds fairly strongly it will be fine for me. I also have a Record No 6 which I am getting ready for paint but it’s too big for my use so I’ll move that on when it’s all done.

Man, that's ugly. The jaws look to be in good condition though. Seller also has a Peter Wright one listed....

It seems no amount of therapy can repress being a vice-a-holic. Couldn't resist the countdown, had to click on the bid button and just won an odd looking Premier bench vice.
I recall that one of the forum members here had a vice mounted vertically on the side of a bench, which he said was very handy, so I will have to blame him for my relapse.

The Premier vice arrived today. Its odd looking, kind of like a hybrid drill press vice sporting a conventional vice handle. It appears to be quite old and well made, with very little play in the jaws, which are 4" inches wide and open to 5" inches. There is a small raised area in the casting which seems to have a model or serial number lightly stamped on it. I can barely make it out as " M/150 ".

Does anyone have one of these ?

So far, I've only been able to find information about Premier Fly Tying vices, nothing about metal or woodworking models.

Wabbit, that Premier wood work vice looks very interesting - looks Parky-type quick release but machined way not rods, which would tend to put it about 1900 any idea where/by whom it was made?

Unfortunately I know very little about it, it was in a batch of vices I bought along with some other wood vices. I have a Parkinson in that machined way style and a Record.

Thanks for those - what a great lineage of the early QR woodworkers - I knew about these but have only seen one photo (not yours) of each of the Woden and Record of this style and your Parky is early (I'm sure you know) as it has the apostophe before the s - I have a long wheelbase Parky like this but with the after s ' - some 10.5 in vices of either early versions seem to have a thicker front casting and some to have three screw holes. I also have a vice of this design but no cast in name at all. Still, the Premier seems somewhat different - very slightly reminiscent of the other vices from the Bradford area.
