Might be a while, it’s for my workshop, which is yet to be started being built, plus I have a couple of other larger vices that need refurbished, it looks reasonably well made, no makers identity on it, and it looks relatively unused, it’s well upto the job I will use it for, which is holding things whilst I cut or weld, the plus being I can swivel the jaws around, whilst the part is clamped.

For those who are interested.
Costing.
Vice was £5:00, part of a tool bundle. The seller did not know what a Woden Vice was.
Paint. The Zinc primmer, black top coat and clear lacquer, left over from other jobs. The gold paint was £0:50p.
The nut and bolt to hold the part which the threaded rod screws into a whole £1:50. It was a UNC bolt.
The vice had a few paint finishes in its life, but the one I choose was black as that was the one under them all.
Why gold highlights? There was the remains of a gold finish on the letters and I had little else to do.

Haven't seen one of these before, but it looks like it could be for a Carpenter's frameing square, to set a length for cutting joist or wall blocking; which is something I'm presently doing. I've got a couple of hexagonal stops that clamp onto a square used for cutting stair stringers, that I've also used for cutting blocks.

Ya, dont know about that. Opening for clamping is very smal.
What I find most significant about it, is all the tiny (hammer?) marks in it.

My Parkinson vice is out of the re-rusting tank, the PSU failed.
But something else also failed.
The de-rusting also showed that in the past heat has bean used.
That's one more job on the list.

Record originally painted iron products blue and steel products red. This changed after the war once they discovered malleable iron, so vices like the ‘unbreakable’ 3X series and the 7X were finished in blue. The Record imp and the autovice were always red though.
Record used a colour called Roundel Blue, same as the RAF used.
Woden used a slightly darker shade which sometimes looks a bit Navy or Oxford blue. For their unbreakable vices they would sometimes use red but also sometimes this strange turquoise green colour. I have one I’m working on so I’ll post a pic.
Woden eventually moved from Wednesbury to become part of Record tools in Sheffield and I don’t know much about the later ones.

Also recently finished (in mismatched paint >.< ) is this Parkinson’s wood vice. This is the one I saved from being a garden ornament. I’ve given this to my friend. Honestly just happy to know it’s working than rusting into the ground

You would however take a railway locomotive like the Flying Scotsman back to bare metal, repaint it and clean it within an inch of its life despite it being steeped in prestigious history. Different schools of thought.

eBay. Apparently this massive thing found it's way here having once been fitted to an Icelandic trawler.
Unusual to find larger Americana over here, clearly this one is "from" Urbana Ohio. I was delighted to see this vice advertised on some of Abom79's YouTube videos.

Yeah definitely. American stuff occasionally appears here along with the Polish and Soviet stuff too, but most is English or Chinese. American ones always look hefty and clumsy lumps compared to the thoughtful English designs... that’s just my opinion though.
