Yup. 
I was in two minds whether to place another, proper bid on it or not, with their being a small chunk/divot in the slide, and due to not being able to tell if that rear insert/jaw has been messed around with, (it looks a bit weird in the photo's, but few sellers take photo's which are much use in gauging overall condition), but thought sod it and did. Finally, a No.8 for the collection. Been after one for a few years now.

That tends to be a point which gets overlooked a lot of the time. Jaw width is only a vague indication of size. You can have two vices, both of the same jaw width, but the physical size difference between them in every other area can be notable. Choosing an overall nicely sized vice, and one which suits you, involves personal taste/opinion just as much as owt else.
Anyhows, back to vice photo's.
Thought whilst we were on with the current European trend, I'd throw a bit of old Swiss engineering into the mix.

Aye, I saw that ball vice you mentioned. Didn't bother with that one though as I had my eye on that Parkinson No.8. That ball vice was an unusual piece. It looked familiar, for some reason, but I can't place where I might have seen some mention of one.
Not got any American ones as yet. Sellers either seem to ask silly prices for them else they're at the opposite end of the country. I'll get one some day though.
Regarding a Wilton, get your hands on an old style York and you pretty much have the grandad of the Wilton. Very little was changed from the York design other than cosmetic differences.

Just had a look how much that went for. £75. By pure chance, I dropped across a scanned catalogue page online which shows that vice. It's a Wadkin.

Yup, it's the same company. That one is of their older style. Judging by the way they're designed/built, I'm guessing they must have made those from around the time the company started to the point where they introduced the more precise twin rod type. Not seen a catalogue snippet which shows that type as yet though, so it's only a rough guess as to time period. Here's one I prepared earlier. 
You can see better in this photo that they're a rather loose fitting assembly. No machined sliding surfaces as such on these, with a slightly loose fit between the slide and body/housing.

It is only £15, and Thirsk is not too far. Nice bit of history too.

Nice.
Always amazes me how those pins manage to drop out. They're generally sods to remove when you want to get them out, yet they occasionally seem to just disappear on their own. I'll never figure that one out.

out of interest matt and being as you are a vice aficionado where would one get some new pins? I have replaced the missing one with a split pin at the mo but would like a proper pin.Nice.
