If you still have the complete half nut, I have a cradle, spring & lever etc. here from a No.23, which should finish it off. The half nut is specific to the size of screw though, so the one from the 23 would be of no use to you. I'll dig those bits out and check them against my 112.

Thanks looking at my photos I do wonder if my half nut has been trimmed down to fit that plate, I will get it out later and have a good look and send a pic

Just removed the plate and it looks like the half nut shifty thing has been cut and this adaptor made?
Could I not cut the bottom off an old half nut an machine a piece to join them?

Aye, you could join the pin from another half nut. If that existing pin is long enough, you could also just shape, (if necessary), and notch that. That looks a good quality modification.

Thats what I was hoping.
So Tonight Matthew your challenge is to find all the bits to fix my Vice
I don't think it will be long enough so I could make a bush to join two, have you any spare half nuts ? I suppose any round bar would do? I just could do with one to copy.
Let me know what my kit of parts will cost, I think its well worth keeping as whilst I love my old Fortis you can't stick long things in it vertically as they catch the casting which can be annoying

You didn't happen to note what the fixing centre dimensions are on that plate, did you? It'll just save me having to up-end my vice to check. Found those bits, but forgot to take a photo. The lever looks a little shorter than the one on the 112, but if you PM me your address, I'll get the bits, (including the half nut), posted, if the fixing dimensions are a reasonable match on that cradle. Only thing I haven't found yet is the flat bar, but that's just a strip of mild. Easily made.

No probs, someone went to a lot of trouble to make that non quick release, seen plenty of bodged ones but yours seems to have been done well ..... I wonder why?

I wondered that?
I just feel as they are so rare and expensive I should have one on my 1930s Record vise table, chances are I will never pick another up for £20!
But I would miss the quick release of the Fortis

£20 is an amazing price for that, I've seen them go for over £100 plenty of times. Apart from the bent handle there are no real signs of abuse, Record describe the handle as being sized so that it bends before the vice gets damaged.

These are the bits. They seem slightly smaller than the ones on the 112, but you should be able to get them working with it?

The flat bar what lifts the half nut but is an imperial size.
If you use a 25mm bar you have to fettle it to fit.

The size difference is not much. But it can make a difference to s smooth action and one what can lock.
