show me your shed

right, on the basis that I am moving to somewhere with enough space to accommodate a proper shed/workshop I want to see what others have done.

to my advantage I have 7 off 6 foot fence posts (4") donated by my father who managed to over count by 7 (he only needed 5 to begin with...)

I don't really want an apex roof, but would like around 8 foot from floor to roof so might have to.

so what have you all got?

What ever you go for don't forget that concrete floors are cold in winter!! Soak the heat out of yer boots. May be go for a lift-able wood floor that can be changed when worn. Or industrial floor carpet tiles as used in offices. Get enough to replace from time to time.

i plan on using a shed base designed for a normal woden shed as they come in the sizes i want. Then i want to build panels to screw down to the floor. Basically like a normal wooden shed but much sturdier. I will be taking my 6x4 with me for storage so this shed will have a welding bench and hopefully a bottle jack press too. Already got a wood burner to use for heating it if needs be just need to pit a heat exchanger in it.

i know what you mean, i haven't even built this one yet and im thinking about a casting shed and a small spray booth for bike bits

Mine is 8 by 16 feet, the walls are lined with insulation and hardboard and the floor is wood. with a small heater ( only in the winter ) it stays nice and warm, even in the snow. I would recommend having lots of windows for natural light to get in. Building your own is the way forward, my dad bought a shed for a workshop recently and he changed out the flimsy batons for hardwood bearers, put 2 extra layers of OSB on the floor, lined the whole thing with OSB and screwed his bench to 2 of the walls and the floor. Now its OK but without his mods it would have been folded up in the storms we've had recently.

in not too bothered about retaining heat too much, i find even in the winter i get quite hot whilst working, i have been using a small butane propane mix blow torch to warm my 6x4 lol. Just thought i would use the wood burner to take the chill off in the winter like i have been doing with the blow torch. My main concern it just having somewhere dry to work on things and to weld, and somewhere secure to store my tools

My 8x16ft x 8 ft high gym shed (gardens been cleaned since pic)
And my 8x12ft 6-7.5ft high pent roof workshop shed, quite cramped.

Gym took me a few months to build from scratch (LOL what was I doing?)
Workshop took about 3 weeks.

Kinda should be able to get a sense of space from the pics

Get viewing the freecycle and local gumtree etc, you can usually pick up double glazed doors and windows for next to nothing, I got a nearly new door in it's frame and window for £60. but have seen them being virtually given away to get out of the road.

Next to where I get my pallets from is a double glazing company. They stack all the removed doors and windows neatly next to their skip hoping people will take away the better stuff before it actually gets skipped. It reduces their waste bill dramatically. Its where I got a complete set of UPVC French doors for my mother in laws summer house complete with keys for the door locks.

I noticed when I went to dump all my garden waste in the local waste centre they had a whole skip of upvc windows/doors .. but im guessing you cant actualy take anything from there?

That depends who's working at the time, whether its the person who will let you dump plasterboard, as long as it's hidden or the one who makes you separate tires, grips and seat before throwing a bike in the scrap metal.

just been to see the house, there is already a 6x8 shed there, so i may not need to build one. I have my 6x4 for storage and only need the other shed for a dry work space.

have to get back with a decision by tomorrow, need to work out if we can afford it. All seemed lime a good idea at the time but its looking like 2k to get moved plus the current rent too

Double it and then double it again it doesn't matter how big you build it you will fill it, trust me !

I used to have a single car garage, I've now got a 20ft by 40ft garage and that's now full, you just hoard more crap, erm I mean stuff too good to throw away, I'll use that one day...
