The lady nextdoor came round yesterday morning after the storms holding a stainless steel chimney flu cover saying is this yours? We checked but ours was ok, I looked over and her's was missing so said I'd sort it for her. Her husband Fred died a month ago so I don't mind doing the odd job for her but until my wife said something it never occurred to me that she knew it was her cover but didn't want to ask me to fix it for her!

that would have been my first thought how did she not know it was her own surely she could see you had one and she did not

No one pressured me into doing this I just wanted to help a guy worse off than me and I saw this as an interesting challenge; why make something simple when I can really complicate it? I've over the years done many such favours never ever wanting anything by way of return other than a thank you.

Please don't form a queue I've already got lots of interesting projects lined up for way into the future; I just need some warm dry weather but I can dream on and is why I'm spending my time on forums; it's white over with snow this morning so I don't feel like getting frozen wandering down to the workshop; if Covid didn't get my pneumonia would.
