Shortening roll pins

I need to reduced the length of some 10mm roll pins by 2-3mm. Plan was to use bench grinder for a few seconds then dunk in water before grinding again for another couple of seconds.
Is this how you'd do the job without affecting the hardness / strength of the pin ?

Either that or put them in th vice and
Cut off the required amount with a thin slitting disc.

Any abrasive method will work, I use the bench grinder method as I find I can be more accurate that way.

Also sometimes if the part is mounted in the lathe I will leve the pin about .5mm too long and machine back flush, like when doing a shaft repair.

You will also find that a decent quality hacksaw blade will cut them quite easily, then dress with a file,
