aparently theres a shortage of calor gas bottles its not just the change of use by entrepreneurs its because more people are having there jollies in england and going caravanning and camping . i alone have 3 big propane bottles 4 small ones and 6 butane ones so just emagine how many are lying around not been used

Heard a similar story in Summer 2020 here in Ireland particularly bottles for gas BBQs.

serve them right with there rip offs on return of the bottle wether found or returned they dont collect them and anyway there great for other creations instead

Seen a couple of game farms in the last few weeks where they have been given free bulk tanks in exchange for all the cylinders.

The story told to me by the flogas driver was the old bottles in people's sheds are probably out of test date and would normally just get scrapped anyway but the new ones are made in India and they can't get any at the moment which is causing the bulk of the problem. Steel shortage and shipping delays/costs being more of an issue than the production. Sounds like it's cheaper for them to buy new ones from abroad than to pay somebody in the uk to test/check the old ones.

I, (like many others) have a decent stock of empty ones and they must know I have a few as they (calor) sent me a letter asking me for any empty ones back to "help out"
But despite them obviously knowing I have paid a deposit for some of them they won't give any of the deposit back unless I take them back to the original dealer (now gone) with the original receipt so I think I'll keep hold of them for a while unless somebody on here genuinely has a granny that's going to suffer without one this winter?

Never bought one so I dont know. Is there no deposit charged on them, or is it rare to get it back?
I was suprised a local roofer was selling bottles, but I paid a fiver for one to repurpose, expected it to be old, but it looked new and well within its date.

I have similar because the places they are from changed supplies and I can’t be arrised jumping through their hoops

If you just want a refill I guess that’s ok to exchange a bottle, without any proof of deposit? If not then keep an eye out for log burners on the projects section

However why would I return one for nothing when I may want one in future?

Ive got a caravan so I obviously need the 6 that I've got
Never paid a deposit on any of them. Used to pick them up foc at the dump, before it became a recycling centre where such dangerous items have to be kept in a locked cage.

i was given nearly all with gas in them . use the propane for the blowtorches and for filling my own primus 2000 bottles up and the disposable ones the otheres are for the heater and barbecue im giving 2 away to the daugher for her new caravan saves her getting a contract out or buying them empty of ebay

The deposit system is causing the problem I think.

The idea of the deposit is to give you an incentive to look after and return the bottle.
If its loads of agro or hassle to return it or they won't actually give you any money back a lot of people would rather give them to somebody to make a bbq out of rather than return them purely out of spite over the deposit they have lost.
I have £175 in propane deposits that I can't reclaim.
I would be happy to give the bottles foc to anybody on here that needed/wanted one for whatever reason as I would see that as something useful and nice to do.
There is no way in hell I will give them back to the rightful owner foc though as that just feels like I've lost the £175 for nothing.

its why i use flogas. notwithstanding the gas cost is cheaper, there's no cylinder deposit from the dealers i use.

2 butane in the van, 2 propane for cold weather 'vanning in the garage, 1 butane on the bbq and a spare one oh and a boc argon bottle that's of no use to me cos I don't have an account, and my hobbyweld argoshield bottle.

Why can you not get it back?
Return them then start a money claim for the value of deposits.
Unless the deposit is time limited, within test dates or something, which is fair enough if you knew before hand.

My local gas supplier won't fill flogas cylinders. Guess what my cylinders are.
