shortage of fresh vegetables in supermarkets

Our dogs have been having tinned cat food mixed in with their food for weeks…. They love it!

We buy 20 kg sacks of pelleted wheat free chicken & rice dogfood from " Claytons feeds "a large animal feeds concern as it's always cheper than the supermarket stuff and has only very rarely ever been on back order in the 13 years of us having him .
Wheat makes him overheat and go all scabby , so we always try to have a full bag unopened in hand as soon as we fill up his feed bin .

At a push I'd eat the dog first , then eat the no longer needed dog food same same with the cat ..

I quite fancy the cats beef in gravy with some pasta ,home grown greens , carrots leeks & caramelised onions .

British ineptitude. We do not need the Russians to help with our failures.

Prices of veg.. its cheap. There will not be riots if the price of lettuce, onions or cabbage double. Price would have to increase quite a bit before Id bother growing my own and it would likely end up soggy, slug eaten rubbish before time to pick.

Then ask yourself what's been sprayed all over this veg to stop it being slug eaten
Home grown is the healthy option especially when you start to look at the f3cked up chemically enhanced supermarket products. Tomato plants that have roots that have never been in soil for one, then we wonder why the nutrition content is a fraction of that of a sixties tomato.

I wonder how long this kiddies sized pack pink lady's apples have been kept in cool storage after being picked ? It's not the first time I've found the pips sprouted .. We have two small seven year old potted trees out in the garden grown off them ( they flowered well last year ) But I've never ever seen them this far sprouted & found the apples still crunchy solid and sweet .

Whilst doing nutritional research I found that in New Zealand they have been doing vitamin values since the early 1950's they found that in 1995 most supermarket oranges & tomato's were devoid of any vitamin C

I watched a program about tomato production in Spain, millions of the things strung up in huge poly tunnels with the roots dangling in chemicals to make them grow, makes you wonder what you are eating

Dad was a farm labourer after WW2 they had a dozen Italian & German POWs on the farm for quite a few years afterwards .
The farmer & his wife wouldn't let any of them use the long drop bog the farmer used , so they had to dig a walking trench behind the barns and have a tomtit behind a hessian screen.

Each summer tomatoes grew out of the infilled full trenches .. The POW's ate the toms green fried & ripe .

Dad had the opportunity to sample the raw & cooked toms , he said they were some of the best toms he'd ever tasted .
The farmer & his wife would have none of it , only feed any they were offered to their pigs

I dont know why in 2018-19 every apple I got was a mushy disapointment and havent bought any since.

My wife just came back from Aldi, lots of veg and she buys the "wonky" peppers at about half the price of the traffic light packs.

We get a get delivered a veg/fruit and or salad box from a local supplier , allways fresh ,from the market or local grower .
Seems to last much longer than supermarket produce .... Hadn't be hanging around in warehouses or been fingered on the supermarket shelves ....
Plus no or very little plastic packaging ,!

We try and buy locally produced stuff where we can, got a 25kg sack of spuds begining of january for £8.00, down to the last few and they are still fine
Im fed up with people moaning about the price of food when they are happy to pay ££s for a cup of special coffee, ££s on takeaways, ££s on streaming services, ££s on other rubbish they dont need and then moan about the price of milk

that was then and i kinda know what you mean as my uncle does cucumber and tomatto produce and big at that

as kids we was allowed to pick the fruit right off the large greenhouses of tomatoes and to say it wasnt chemical fed plants they was loverly and suckulent

nowadays you have to be careful of the pill so the above would no longer exist might be good tomatoes but chemical intake from others can transmit through growth of plants and into herds and people

As goes for a workforce that we dont have one

well we do but whilst controversial but can be implemented easily enough and everyone has to do a 6 month over a 2 year period

if you dont do it you get a longer period of time same with those that want to cause trouble or dont want to work

we have one via school levers weather rich or poor having a child or is already at childcare stage makes no difference

its also good practice and they learn how to work as a group and they know what hard work is

SWMBO gets what she can delivered in from an organic grower, she has a thing about pesticides, fertilizers and preservatives being sprayed all over veg.

This was dumped at the gate about an hour ago.

It used to be that organic suppliers could top up with 20% non organic if they couldnt get enough organic stuff and still sell it as organic, dont know if the rules have changed now
