I made a hedgehog feeding station like this. Doesn't stop vermin of course. I put in dried cat food and a bowl of water. If you place some white paper on the floor and a inking pad for rubber stamps at the doorway, the foot prints will tell you who has been eating your food

Not quite the alternative thing I had thought of but certainly in that area of ideas. I did go on e bay to see if there was such a thing as firm rubber balls about 20mm dia for my catapults. Do such things exist??

get some 20mm plastic conduit 1 meter long and roll some balls of putty. it makes a brilliant blowpipe and accurate

What about this, don't have to worry about picking them up after and if you got bright colour ones you'd know what you hit lol
