the off the shelf doors are actualy very good, we fitted one to a farm workshop it took a sustaned pikey attack till they gave up and went in through the roof,

£ and time wise youd be daft to try and make one, on a shipping container id make an angel frame out of heavy angel set it into the container then fit the provided door frame to that with bolts and silkaflex

Why not cut the door out of the side than weld a frame around the opening on the inside and then weld a frame the to the piece you cut out. That way it would as strong as the sides and won't be obvious from distance that there is a door.

No we’ll be staying put. The old workshop is currently opposite the main shop. We have to vacate and create new workspace in the yard behind the shop.

if you are still worried about security you could add a simple gate on the inside (or outside) when time permits

Always made them personally Jim. Never found anything in the market that is suited.

Gone for an off the peg steel skinned security door. The side with the door on will be enclosed on 3 sides anyway so it’s not as vulnerable as all that.

Both containers are now clear, need to level them with packers and weld a strip of flat bar between the two to seal the roof joint. Then it’s time to get busy with the grinders and plasma cutter making some holes.

We just fitted 6 to some industrial units , got them from a firm called doors for security on the web . Been very impressed so far and very easy to fit , there adjustable you just wind the Allen bolts out drill through the same holes and they are multi point locking. Very good value as well.

I ordered one from there a while back and was dissapointed. In hindsite, i should have just sent it back for a refund and ordered from elsewhere, but wanted to get my garage secure. It turned up without a latch plate, took three attempts for them to send a plate that would actually fit (in that 2 of the 6 holes lined up, i decided 'that'll do!'), after initially trying to tell me that the door is always supplied without one (without a latch plate, it just swung in the wind unless it was actually locked). Its been in a year, lets huge volumes of water in (ive always been suspicious that its actually the incorrect door, ie and outward opening one supplied to be fitted inwards as the weather proofing is on the incorrect side? Again, i tried to speak to them about this at the time but was told i was wrong) and the powdercoat is so thin, with no surface prep, that its going rusty already....... Oh yeh, and the welding quality is very average, spikeys everywhere, powdercoated over!! That being said, it was very easy to fit, the adjustable width system is great!!

Im looking for another 6 for work as theyre a great idea compared to the wooden doors which only seem to last 10yrs or so, plus the added benefit of being more secure. Perhaps this time ill give lathams a go and see if theres are any better......
