Evening chaps,

A good mate of mine was kind enough to give me a container this week. Only problem is where it was butted up to another one before and used as a store someone has cut two doorways in one side.



The hole closest to the doors i would like to close up permanently, but the other end i was thinking it may be a good idea to put a secure steel door in so that there can be access from both ends. They made a bit of a mess cutting the hole at that end so i am thinking maybe to cut a bit more out instead of trying to straighten it out.

Any ideas how to do this would be much appreciated .

I would fabricate a door frame from heavy angle, and stick it in the hole. Bolt it on or weld it. Make the door from 2 mm sheet, stiffened with 20 x 20 angle.

Same as what sardine mentions for the door.

For blocking off the one you don't require, any decent scrapyards around your area?, that sheet profile is fairly common and you may find some you can salvage.

Patio doors onto a timber deck would be nice in the summer but a bit impractical from a security point of view

Don't use angle use 40x40 box for the frame. Just finished doing 100 container conversions

Try container repair or modification yard. Can usually but the sides that will weld straight in. Then make a door for the other end, can make as secure as you want then, using anything from 1mm plate as a skin to 5-6mm for fort knox. All depends on use and security requirement.

Not much point putting a thick plate door on, if the walls are only thin ? The robbers will just saw through the wall.

Containers are 1.6 - 2 mm I think. Some are Corten steel.

Don't try using the fluted walls for a repair yard, they will be a b'stad to try and fit. Use 2mm sheet to fill up the hole flute to flute.

Ideally overlay the one you want to seal with some more of the same profile if you can get it or make it / have it made as 2mm sheet even folded is cheapest option

On the other, needs a good coat of looking at first but yes I think at first glance cut it back and make a casing and door from box. Angle and or whatever

Still not a bad thing for nowt especially if that includes delivery

Hmmm! can this be turned on its side so that the openings are facing upwards? put a shuttering inside and have two skylights for lighting up the container in daylight,bearing in mind the openings will be covered with thick clear perspex and the shuttering for security when container not in use.

Then you would have to cut out a door way on the side? or does it open as a normal container via one the ends?

Nah! that won't work cos the doors at the end would open wrong....ha well it was an idea.

Well laminate it and wouldn't the wooden wall be a bonus for hanging tools from.

Forgot to say you could run cables along the corrugation channels to each side of the container and they'd be hidden by the laminate.

There is no steel bottom on them, just steel beams and mega thick ply.

I would fix the door openings then clad the whole thing in feather-edge. Think of the surprise any would-be burglar would have

see if you can get hold of a roller shutter door for the opening you want to keep and just a sheet of 2mm plate for the one you want to block up once its all painted no one will notice
