Hi, this is my first post and am new to welding. I've just bought a 40ft shipping container that I am converting into an office/showroom. I sell aluminium bifolds and windows so I want to cut away most of the front of the container and install some bifolds. I'd like to build two goal posts and fit them into the container so I can install the bifolds into them.
I have two questions.
Q1) The depth of the bifold profile is 80mm. I'm considering using 100mm x 50mm mild steel box section. Will this be strong enough and what thickness steel should I use? Or should I use another profile all together? The image below looks as though they have just used flat plate, is box section necessary?
Q2) Should the joints be mitred or would butt joints be strong enough? The doors are bottom hung so there will be next to no weight hung from the header bar.
Thanks for your help guys.
The image is to give you an idea of what I'm trying to achieve.
