Shielding Gas help

Hey guys,

I have managed to borrow a decent MIG welder off of a neighbour but need to source some gas for it.

I have looked through the gas faq list but see no suppliers near me (Camberley, near guildford).

I am probably looking for some cheap Co2 pub gas (am welding fairly thick plate), although the regulator i have with the welder is for the argon type.

If you could link me to anywhere where i can get a cheapo co2 gas bottle and fill up and a converter for the regulator that would be great!

i have also (2 days ago) started working in my local pub.

What i dont understand is why pub owners just give the gas to welders as i have read on here. Do they get it free?

I will be asking in there tomorow though! Is there anything i should know to be able to explain to them why/what as i don't think they will have provided gas before to a welder!

If you are welding thick plate why not consider fluxcore wire and gas not required?

well its 3mm plate and some 3mm box section.

However soon i will need to weld an exhast, which is probably around 2mm...
