Hi All. Ive got a couple of projects on the go, and have a bunch of cavity waxes (aerosols) and seam sealers/body filler etc that i have had sitting unopened since last year. Projects always take longer than you plan! So now i am getting to the stage of needing the products and several are past their "best by dates". Does anyone have any experience here - i dont want to waste my time if they wont be effective, but also dont want to have to spend all that money again! (Mostly Dinitrol stuff and not cheap). I am wondering if the gas in the aerosols still works then they might be ok? Thoughts? Cheers.

I had several cases of Dintrol AV30 that a mate got me when he worked in Bristows in the 80's, never noticed a use by date, still works fine.

Little update...

I used some of these last week to coat the inside of some RHS i am using as support posts. The cavity waxes sprayed fine, and are nice and tacky once applied. (I expected if they had "expired" to either not spray at all or go quite brittle when drying). So it looks promising.

I had asked the supplier for advice, but got little info. Fortunately i can keep an eye on the RHS in this job (unlike the inside of a cars sills!) so i can see how they last.

I think the use by dates are to cover themselves for the products drying out. If your products are in a sealed container and can be mixed smoothly (filler) sprayed out (wax) or brushed on (seam sealer) you're laughing.

yeah id not worry if it works...eveything has to have a sell by date on it now

just make sure its shaken/stirred up well

Reminds me of the guy asking about the sell by date for his honey production. They have found honey in egyptian tombs that was good to eat after 3000yrs. When the standards told him to put 3yrs on it, he was a bit confused. "Well, we got the Egyptian stuff in the nick of time then"

I will let you know how it works out for me on the paint I bought, five years ago, to spray my Espace. And I have some 2-part for the boat that is, um..., nine yrs old? Going to try that too this month.

Just as an N.B. If you have had a metalic base coat standing for a year or more, decant most of the liquid into a mixing cup, stir the sediment which is all the metalic content to a smoothe paste then gradually add the liquid back in. Failure to do so is painfull.
Reason: Base coat is the most expensive part of refinish and a gun blockage part way through a panel is one of the most annoying and expensive problems you could get.
Next to fish eyes of course.
