Sheet material where to buy?

Hi all

Looking for somewhere in Northampton that sells sheet material, had a look through the yellow pages and internet but nothing....anyone know of anywhere reasonably priced?

Steel or non ferrous. Non ferrous will be AS metals . For steel you have A.H.Allen,Billsons or for one sheet you will be better to try at J.E. Matthews On London road by Southbridge.

Sheet steel I'm looking for 8' x 4' cheapest there is... not bothered what gauge though...

Haven't been to Matthews yet, but A.H Allen want £66.48inc for a 8'X4' 1.5mm sheet can steel really have gone up that much?

Oh well will pop down to matthews in the week....

Hi,

I recently bought some 1" box, plus a few lengths of various width flats, for the first time in a couple of years and was very surprised that the total was around £300.

I was expecting about £200 and maybe even a little less.

The guys at the yard said that prices have jumped in the last year.

A 1" box, full length (about 19' 10") used to cost me £8 inclusive when I was making market stalls around three years ago.

Last week I picked up a sheet of 3mm plate, 1m x 2m and it cost £35 +VAT and I thought that was OK.

You need to shop around for steel, price can vary a great deal, on small quantities you will pay around £900 +VAT a ton, as the quantity goes up the price goes down. Dont expect anyone to give good prices on small quantities

sorry, I can't remember the exact make up of the order, it was lots of bits and pieces that I was out of or needed for various projects...

the total wright was, AIR, about 220 Kilos.

I remember thinking it was getting close to the maximum that I've had on the roof rack.
