Genuine question though, are these the ex school/college setups for which it's difficult to get software to work with?

Yep, also have a Denford version in the garage. They really want to be mach3 converted because of the software issue. Nice little machines though.

That pic made me think of William Morris' bedroom 'workshop cupboard' at Nuffield Place (NT). Well worth a visit when this is all over for anyone whose never been. A thrifty man who was very generous towards others.

I should probably have called this thread "disaster recovery" but anyway, this is after a couple of days cleaning and tidying (just this bench!) 
Nice to find some lovely castings tucked away in the top corner.
...and a decent compound vice. I've always wanted one of those!
Plus a 3 axis universal grinding vice. I knew I had this. It needs a good restoration but will end up on the grinding station, well away from this bench which is for Tig only I decide.
Finally, I had to move that blasted Swinden's which has been right in the way on this bench since I installed it. Didn't actually realise that until I made some room. And it took forever! 1/4" top and 1/4" angle iron which I cleverly decided to drill through. What a disaster! But I got there eventually though I gave up after 8mm. None of my drill bits wanted to touch it, only an ancient Dormer bit was able to get through it.
I have learned something though and from now on, cheap drill bits are out. I will invest in a decent set of quality bits and I am leaning towards Dormer. Just hope they're as good now as they were then.
Onwards and upwards, the next "job" is already parked on the bench waiting to see if I can remember how to Tig, now that I can get to the actual machine.

It was explained to me ounce , if you go to get work done walk away from the guy with the clean workshop who supps through his lips and shakes his head ,hmm hmm, as he has too much time on his hands and not very good , so he spends most his time tidying his shop where as like yours ..go to the man who is working when you arrive ,jobs queued up on the floor etc , as he is kept busy for a reason and doesnt have time to clear the bench. I think these days H&E etc means that most are the former these days.

Nice surprise waiting for me when I got back from a small ducting bracket job (ongoing). Unwrapped it to see what DHL had done to it...
Nothing at all! No drops, no dings, no additional damage and they delivered when they said. More shed tidy action coming soon. I might **just** get away with putting some of the more cumbersome flypress tooling in there but I guess this ought to be decorated with a ton of drawer boxes/liners and put to small parts storage.
