something more acurate,
yeah, i seen draper ones for about that much but i like the old school stuff, it has some age to it and hopefully i can make it work.as I put in other post they can be good but u need to set it up every time for different size drills and is a bit of a work of art top get used to . u can normally get them for about 14 quid
something that i dont have to spend the christmas bonus on anyways.something more acurate,
im fully aware of the hand grinding and i do but im looking for something a step above it.
sorry lad about the late reply, ive been flat out of late.I don't think there is a cheap option that will fulfill your requirements. We've got a drill doctor at work but i've never seen anyone use it, everyone just does it by hand. My eyesight's not good enough for bits under 5mm but they're cheap enough to throw away.

youd be right there i know, but there would be the possibility of modifying/making something that might cover most of the bases while staying cheap'ish.
after doing some googling before there are home made options that dont look too bad altho the time to make up something seems ever so scarce.
im in no rush at the mo but some day ill put together something and see would it work.
failing that i just buy something.
Never saw it till after I posted mate. I get a daily post in my emails about home made tools and thought it would be good for all to see.ya mean ya started a new thread about the same thing we are talking about here...
Actually I just noticed I posted it 6 mins before your reply the last post was 1st of October so was not in my new post list.ya mean ya started a new thread about the same thing we are talking about here...

nice machine they normally fetch over 6oo quid at the auctionswith the thoughts of a drill sharpener in mind i was at an auction 2 weeks ago where an engineering company was having a clear out and in the lots was a brierley tool sharpener.
so when in Rome n all that, i ended up buying it.
i didnt steal it but seeing since they are gone out of business, a uk company and are talked to be up with the best if not just that i thought id have a punt.
they seem to have been round 6-7k new so i got good enough value.
i got the time to have a play with it this evening for an hour until i was dragged away to play hide n seek with our soon to be 5yr old girl.
times you have to appreciate the simple things in life too.
anyways, whoo wee she is some machine to sharpen a drill, i only done a few 9-10mm with it but the finish it leaves is just stunning.
i didnt take any pics of the bits i done but ill throw some up when i get another play with it.
i know we all can sharpen drills by hand but this thing is precision at its best.
i might keep it or i might shift it on but for now and with the wee bit i done with it, i see now what all the fuss is about.
just thought id add it to this thread when i was on about sharpening drills.

.
a good old sharpening service.
Yeah, for sure hand sharpening would be fine for probably 90-something % of applications (100% of the rough ar5ed stuff I do!!). I really only mentioned it as my father in law works for a contract cleaning company in there and all the drill bits he collects when the jigs get swept down are sent away for checking and sharpening. (Well, maybe not all....)when you would be at that elevation you can be sure they are paying a lot for precision sharpening.
you cant oversharpen a drill tho, it can only be right for its application.
that brierley machine i have is about as good as it gets, that is unless you want to split degrees into seconds but i dont know of any drills that id need to be that precise or for any reason.
