We had been talking about a shaper & was tempted by the hand job BUT not enough time left at our age so when we were offered the Bridgeport unit for £60 could we refuse.
A good clean & a coat of paint later, fitted new bearings in motor £12 awaiting new Armourflex cable.
There were 2 mills & 2 shaper heads in the scrappys!! mate bought the lot Happy days A lot of other jobs in the line, note Henderson track to move rotary table, vice & dividing head + arm for 4 jaw on Colchester.
Yes it is a boiler for traction engine in background all wheels made cheek plates & axle fitted & a LOT of cast iron machined

there was a nice bridgie shaping attachment at autojumble last year mint condition and it only fetched 90 quid new price would be mouth watering. prices are dictated by who is there on the day or how bad u need oneand if one comes available

The Bridgeports in the apprentice workshop at Delphi all had a slotting head on the back end of the ram. Apparently they do actually use them which I was supprised at. I wish I took some pictures in there.

I see them every now and then on eBay which prompts me to look for a complete Bridgeport to put it on.

Nahhh we were going to send out some parts for traction engine so it is in for a fair bit of use.
Will ask if the other one is for sale & at what price when I see the bloke next

I spent six months in the development workshops ( sometimes the apprentices would use them, but they were mainly for prototyping and development work) at Delphi in stone house Stroud during 2012. The mill with the slotting attachment on was a bridgeport clone.

I ummed and ahed over that TOS which went for £340 the other day. Too bloody big and heavy sadly. By complete coincidence, I was also watching a small shaper and managed to persuade the seller to let me have it "off eBay" for £60!

Needs a bit of work to fit it to a stand and motor but the mechanism is beautiful.
