Not round here it doesn't due to the drug smoking scum that live next door. And the washing smells fresher when it’s been dried outside.
(And that’s quite a strange thing for a man to say.)
its the only brand our local retailer would sellThose whiteknights are amazingly reliable
no no no never put them on and go to bed, as an x firefighter seen the concequences far too often , same as plug in chargers, phones laptops etc etcAnd my sister tells me there’s no harm in leaving the dryer on overnight.
This is exactly the reason I can’t sleep while it’s on.
Really wouldn’t have it on over night.
Same for washing machines (we run ours at night though). They’re ‘attended’ appliances apparently, should only be run whilst someone is around.
Glad I’m not the one at whirlpool paying for the recalls on their driers.
As for reliability, Bosch washer at something like 12 years and same for the dyson hoover (if not longer). Hoping they last a while longer as their replacements won’t last that long.
I think there’s a fine balance - if they did make them last for decades the price would likely be high enough to put people off buying them, despite the fact that it might work out cheaper in the long run. There are companies doing high end quality stuff that by all accounts lasts much longer than your average domestic goods (Miele) but people still balk at the up front cost.Manufacturers CAN make stuff to last decades. BUT they don't because they would loose repeat sales. They absolutely hate people like us here on the forum. they would rather us buy new than repair.
Our dc01 was brilliant. I gave it a mate who was struggling after losing his job and missus and we bought a new one.
Terrible thing.
Ended up taking it back and getting a Dyson Animal.
Jabberwocky!
I wanted a different make but wife went out while I was working and got this lump of junk we have now. It's an upright but is pathetic unless you use the wand/hose. Dc14.

carry on camping ....I now carry 3 weeks’ worth of clean clothes in the truck, just in case. (And I still carry washing powder and a clothes line...)
Before that particular penny dropped, if I was weekended away in the truck I used to boil a kettle of water and wash my smalls in a bowl then rig up a washing line on the back of the trailer. Thankfully, for you lot anyway
, I never took any photos, but the sight of a washing line full of drawers on the back of an artic flatbed made for interesting conversations
.
And as for the times when me and the previous Mrs 4String sold up and lived in our motorhome. We used to hang the washing out to dry on the rear mounted bike rack, until the day I forgot about it and drove through the middle of Rotherham one afternoon in the rush hour with a selection of her undergarments on display.
Planned obsolescence - a concept born of a liaison between accountants and major shareholders (aka pension funds)![]()
That's a big list at the bottom..Yikes, swerve whirlpool.
