Firstly (before I shamelessly pick your collective brain), this being my virgin post on this forum, I should like to say hello to all, and thank you in advance for any information shared.
So to cut to the chase - I do a bit of hobby bike framebuilding/refurbishment, and have reached the stage (with half an eye on the possibility of turning it into a business in future), where I'd like to have control of the final process, ie paint.
I've had a good trawl of the various forums and have picked up an awful lot of useful information (so I'm already indebted), but due to the majority of info out there pertaining, it seems, to car refurbishment, where you're obv. talking relatively large/flat surface areas vs a bike frame, I'm somewhat struggling to extrapolate the specifics of what's relevant to my needs - if that makes sense.
So I have a few specific question, but any info gratefuly received -
1) Sandblasting - would something like this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SSG8-Sand...otn=4&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=3704169699351951910I - be appropriate or would I need a pressurised pot sandblaster? If the former, what size air compressor should I be looking at?
2) Similarly re. paint gun, what would be an appropriate size, HVLP vs LVLP - airbrush even?? And can it be run off the same compressor? Do I need a different gun for the primer and colour/clear? (very basic stuff i know)
3) I live in possibly the wettest/dampest area of the uk - am I asking for trouble attempting this without some form of air cooling system? (filters would obv be a bare minimum requirement)
4) What sort of paint would be suitable for bike frames? Ideally it needs to be something that goes on quite thin as I'd like to maintain detail/lug definition etc. With that in mind does anyone have any experience of this stuff - http://www.autoaircolors.com/ - water based, available in very small quantities so sounds ideal but how durable is it?
So all pretty basic stuff as you can see. There were a couple of other things but my mind's temporarily blanked, so I shall leave it there for now and errr.........over to you
