Hi there.
After a month or two using a cheapo Amazon welding box I picked up used Jasic 250c, a bit overkill for what I need, but so much nicer to use. The reason for the upgrade was the ability to use a spool gun for aluminium. So I watched a couple of tubes and went at it, and, well, I'm not completely sure what's going on! I know the machine is good, I know the aluminium is clean, very clean, the wire is new but I'm struggling to get any penetration, the wire is just burning off on the surface, looks like loads of soldering bobbles.
I have to admit I don't know what grade the aluminium is that I'm testing with, but the wire (I forget the number) is a catch all wire, or so I'm told. As soon as I turn the power anywhere above 16ish it just burns back. I know I need to have a greater distance and I'm looking for the 'spray' rather than actual contact, but it aint happening.
Rather than ask for loads of advice, which will only repeat what I already know, I thought I'd ask a slightly different question. If I'm welding with .8mm steel wire on 2mm mild steel perfectly, how much would you expect to adjust the power and feed for aluminium of the same thickness?
Any ideas?
Many thanks.
