Settings/Bottle Info Required!

Hi all,

I have been working on restoring my mini, and the time has come to do some welding on the body.

I seek advice on settings and bottle prices and suplliers. I have a clarke 90 which I have recently purchased.

I have been welding for a few years at work, but I have never done anything this small and I am weary about blowing holes.

Overall, I am after the settings and bottle info for my work.

Ho Scotty, welcome to the forum .
For most stuff on a mini you'll be using the lower settings so 0.6mm wire would be best for you. My recommendation for gas would be agon/co2 mix and not to use disposables, they're a right pain, don't last long and work out very expensive if you have a lot of welding to do. You might be in luck and have a non-rental supplier near you, gasman and adamsgas are both members on here who deal in them, gasman has various outlets dotted around the country and I think adamsgas operates a delivery system.

Nice to here your doing a mini! Can you post some photos and show us what your up to? there are quite a few people on here who restore old cars. (first that comes to mind is peter51)

Thanks for the info! Yes I will get some pics on tonight. I have jacked the car up and pulled the seats and flooring out, and had a bit of a shock at how much I need to do.

As I mentioned before, I have never done any work on materials so thin. So I really want to get all the settings right.

My main concern, is where to cut the material out, finding the right gauge steel with the same properties.

Any suggestions on steel?

I'm doing an innerwing on a disco and i'm using 1.2mm on the recomendation of Paul90.

Hi. Weldequipe could supply you with regs and kit you need for argoshield CN gasses of Oldham supply argoshield. You buy a bottle and then do exchange for refill no rental charge. Charlie.
