setting up me welder

hi all my new welder Clarke 100E turned up today and i had a bit of a play, it feels different to the one i sued at work today (Murex TradesMig 165) lovely bit of kit it was running argo lite. it left the welds sort of shiney and clean but it was on good metal, afterwards i bought a 5kg spool of wire 0.8mm from machinemart also a bottle of C02 and it was using some slightly greasy/dirty metal as it was too dark to find the grinder but it left the weld sort of like a gasless did a sort of dull coating on the top can you advise as to what is happening

also sscince its only 100 odd amps should i be rinning skinny wire om using 0.8mm at the mo

A bottle of co2? Do you mean a wee tin can of the stuff? Look no further for your problem, grasshopper.

I'm using .6mm wire with a crappy CO2 bottle. I can get decent penetration on 3mm but that's right at the top of the welders capabilities.

aah right i have to have the wire feed speed at around 2 or 3 at the most on full power to get any sort of weld otherwize it just splutters like a bitch

For 1.5mm I leave it a 3max with wire speed about 4/5, if I find I'm blowing holes I drop it to 3min
