Have you an indicator?
Measure the diameter of the tailstock barrel. Very accurately.
Then turn a short length of stock in the chuck to exactly the same dimension.
Bring the tail stock up to the piece of stock you have turned. Run a dial indicator of at least 0.01mm resolution (that's 0.0005") from the bar in your chuck onto the barrel of the tail stock.
You then need to adjust the tail stock until the indicator shows no difference.
Same as Brad and Clive here I turn a part to mirror the tailstock ram and run a dial across. You can do the same on the top and check the heights at the same time.
