My daughter rang me at 5:30am this morning from New Zealand to ask me if I can find her a cheap trumpet .

Next time she's on the phone, I'd blow one, (trumpet, that is ), into the mouthpiece & say yes.

What happens for people who work during the night ? Do they get paid extra for the additional hour they have to work ?

Hi, Yes any good company would do, some at flat rate some at an overtime rate. When I worked at the airport we gained both ends of the summer, in the spring we were paid 12 hrs for an 11 hr shift and in the autumn we got 12 hrs and an hours overtime (w/e time and ¾).

I’m working offshore at the moment and working nights - that extra hour should come in handy (Didn’t think that at the time mind!)

my dog goes out when she needs out, then settles and goes back to bed...gotta pee, you gotta pee...she's learned if I'm up for the loo, then is a good time to appear and sit outside the bathroom...I then know someone wants out...works well...don't have to get up again an hour or so later

My dog is only 4 months old so he can get a bit excited in the mornings but he's so pleased when you get up you couldn't be anoyed with him. A couple of months ago he was needing to go out at 3am so things are improving a lot. In fact this morning he did settle down again rather than wanting to play/eat my slippers which made a pleasant change.

I never used to get the extra hour paid, but also wasn't docked an hour for missing the hour in spring

Same with me 'on call' - I reckoned it was only once a year and a bit of give and take was in order.

Done it again this morning. All clocks were changed yesterday... except my alarm clock.
I thought I was up at 8:00, but right now it is currently 7:35am whilst I type this and drink my morning tea

I was pretty tired last night, took dog into forestry and got intentionally lost for three hours, we ambled about like tourists oooing and awing at the autumn sunshine. Then we found ourselves on the beach with a very long walk back to the car..

What with the clock changing, the sunshine and the all the fresh air I've given us a 'day off' from this busy retirement today ;-)

Set them to summer time and leave them blooming well alone.
We have street lighting and the kids would get more benefit from an hours light after school than an hours light before school...farmers have more lights than a carnival on their equipment, cows come into be milked when their "internal clocks" tell them to. So its time to consign this clock swapping malarkey to the dustbin...not quite sure who they interview when they say "A majority of Scots oppose staying on summer time" as most people I know feel the same way as you and I do....

I've never really understood the clock changing anyway, it only causes a bit of a nuisance every so often. I leave most of the clocks on GMT and rely on the phone and laptop to tell me when to do stuff.

Even international time zones are a solution to a problem that doesn't exist - why should we care what the absolute number is.

My parents had a couple of storage heaters on Economy 7 working off plug-in timers. They always complained about having to adjust the time and then reset the tappets. I couldn't convince them just to leave them alone.

I was in the middle of clocaenog forest when it changed, went to a halloween night out dressed as dracula, got home changed then straight out into the forest to watch rally gb HA should have left my costume on !!now that would have been a laugh !! was a bit confusing trying to work out the time to get to the stages I must admit ! Everybody had different times on their phones----
some phones changed but my watch didnt, problem is my head changed about 10yrs ago to GGT -----goo goo time and hasnt gone back.

In our house the missus HAS to have GNT on to get ready for work as she has set things to do at set times like start up the concrete mixer before having a shower then the mix is ready to apply as she gets out and dried.

Thats the crux of the whole fiasco.. all we ever do is spend time converting one time to another. If everyone just used one time .. then there wouldn't be any issue.

I used to sit on calls with the USA and we'd waste loads of time working out 'what time is it over there' Oh sorry its so early for you or sorry its so late here.. just get on with it eh!

Yep I know I hate the summer / winter time thing, you just need to do what you do at a time, WHATEVER that time is , moving the 'day' back and too is stupid IMO if you want kids to go to school at 8 tell them a week before it is due (because of the light etc etc) and that is it !! they start at 8 and finish earlier simple !! the mad thing is stupid people would say I'm not getting up at 7 for 8 start for instance "THATS TOO EARLY "----- but you have moved the clock----- so you just HAVE got up then !!!
