Servicing my machinery

Hi, heres an example of one of my machines i have in the workshop sorting up ready for this seasons work. i have the diablo off the machine just now welding up the two ends. they are starting to wear thin and are bending.

i am making the use of two old discs by cutting out the centres and welding them on the sides of my diablo to strenthen it up a bit and stop it from bending. the discs will be a good 6 or 7mm thick. here are a few pictures of what ive been doing im sure a new diablo would be around 8 or 9 hunder pounds so hopefully this will keep mine going another 4 or 5 years

If my collage days serve me correctly diablo is the name of the roller shape, grimme is a brand name synonymous with root crops.....

destoneing from what I remember could break a good man, a heady speed may be about KPH Iv known people to spend weeks destoneing at 0.8KPH with self steer think that would send me stir crazy.....

Howard's and dowsewell unfortunately were part of the British disease both went bankrupt, Dowswell did reform and started remaking ploughs, I think Howard's name still knocks about but the British co went to the wall in the 70s.....

Theres not many British makes left, Simba still holds a proud flag, however there kit is only painted here, All the fabrication went to Eastern europe..

Unfortunately a heluva lot of these machinery mfts just were not inative enough and rested on there glory days...

New Hollands are still made in Basildon tho although there actually an Italian co......

Aye i knew grimme ,made tato harvesters etc , imsure theres many a howard rota spreader rotting away in corners of fields

The irish have a few manufacturers , redrock , a firm who makes balers ,wrappers etc (cant remember name) and keenan who do the TMR feeder wagons . Loads of them about .

JCB definatly a british sucess story several factories around the uttoxeter area ,one at wrexham, one in rugeley plus a new place for trainees /students are rocester

hi folks

yes you spot on! its a Grimmie Stone and Clod Seperator. and the diablo is the steel drum shaped bit mounted on the front which squeezes down the bed of soil so it enters into the machine a bit easier. the diablo can be set using the two springs mounted on each side of it to adjust the tenstion.

as a bonus the reclamed stone can be used on the gate entrances and drives for leveling

JCB are British ish, 3CXs are still made in the UK and the telehandlers, much of the 360 Assembly has gone abroad, They were on a 3 day week on the line dunno if theres more shifts there now....

Redrock went bankrupt last year, been bought by Manitou I think.....

I never know who owns what now... theres a few all British makes, Househam, Bateman etc, mostly at the very specialist hand built type end...
