Interested in this, fancy buying an 88" Series 2 / 2a in the coming years as a retirement present.

Bear in mind re,factory manuals, the S3 gearbox is quite different, the whole clutch release mech is different (and far superior,) on the S2 and 2a, also as someone mentioned the S3 is an all synchro box, the S2 isn't,
Much of the other stuff is very much the same though and pretty much crosses over between S3 and S2 / 2a
Totally, there's so much interchangeability over a very long timescale, which is very handy if you're keeping one runningAnd in my experience the model of land rover bears absolutely no correlation to what gearbox it has in it. Same for engine, axles and often bulkhead and many other things.
Pretty much, LT77 could be considered grandson of LT76 in a way.are these the same?
I'll write up how to do it in the next few days, dead easy.Good idea re the reversing light, I'll look further into that.
Good Luck! You could always sell it to @Bobupndown if the worst comes to the worstI guess I'll need to tell her at some point![]()
Try doing a Form V888Just out of interest, that is an age-related plate
Very true.the whole clutch release mech is different
Other opinions are available, but lets not turn this into the S2C forum please.(and far superior,)
Do you want a turn key or a restoration project?Interested in this, fancy buying an 88" Series 2 / 2a in the coming years as a retirement present.![]()
Much as I enjoy working at cars I'd probably buy one already restored. It's normally the more cost effective option in the long run, and you get to drive your 'new' toy straight away.Do you want a turn key or a restoration proproject?
Nothing cost effective about a LandRover.Much as I enjoy working at cars I'd probably buy one already restored. It's normally the more cost effective option in the long run, and you get to drive your 'new' toy straight away.
Very early series ones were cast, then they were pressed.I know it's a daft question, but is the front land rover badge pressed or cast?
Well aware of thatNothing cost effective about a LandRover.![]()
Tell her that it's mine and you are fettling it for me. When running I will have found another interest and so you can have it as a gift!I guess I'll need to tell her at some point![]()
All my 1957 Land Rover has cost me this year is one wheel cylinder, about £40, ok I bought a pair but I've only needed to fit one.Nothing cost effective about a LandRover.![]()
I don't know Dave, the car is now under a tarp and I can't be ar5ed to undo it to have a lookI know it's a daft question, but is the front land rover badge pressed or cast?
That's not a bad idea, I'd probably get away with that too!Tell her that it's mine and you are fettling it for me. When running I will have found another interest and so you can have it as a gift!
Not important, But if it's pressed. It will have been made by what became APM and painted by either Barbara or Val.I don't know Dave, the car is now under a tarp and I can't be ar5ed to undo it to have a look![]()
Maybe I'll have a look tomorrow or Wednesday if it's dry.Not important, But if it's pressed. It will have been made by what became APM and painted by either Barbara or Val.
Yes I know, I was just joking. I loved the LandRovers I owned. Especially the serie 2a.All my 1957 Land Rover has cost me this year is one wheel cylinder, about £40, ok I bought a pair but I've only needed to fit one.
Dunsfold were excellent, last thing I got from them was sychro clips coincidentally, unfortunately I believe they shut down in the last couple of years or so.Yes I know, I was just joking. I loved the LandRovers I owned. Especially the serie 2a.
@RWD3M Dunsfold used to be a good source for original parts. Don't know if they still carry a lot of stock.
I still have a box here with original 2a gearbox bearings and a crate with gearbox and transferbox internals.
If you need anything give a shout.
