ours is 3 cubes x 2. About the same price here then, been here 17 years, emptied once when we bought the place, then again 3 years ago again. seems if it's working "right", then it'll take care of itself up to a point, and doesn't need emptying that often. A lot of them don't work properly because folks put too much rain water though them, keep them seperate, so it only has to deal with the jobby... don't dilute them un necessarily...

you never empty it completely, always leave enough to keep it going, as for not spraying it on fields anymore, that's maybe the official version....

some dairy farmers have large slurry tanks and they empty your crap in to them and mix it with the cow sh...ite. put directly on burns the grass

I'm a sparks myself! The supply in the field was 3 phase but not sure if they'd let me have a supply.

The tank seems to have a pump running in it with a separate unit a few feet away from the main one. Not too sure what sort of system it is though.

Because of the slope of the land, our barn has a seperate treatment tank that has a pump in the overflow section, that sends it up the grade to the soak away field that the main house flows to by gravity. This is a 50 sq mtr area x1.2 mtr deep pit, filled with gravel, with perforated pipes to spread the waste water over the area. So your system might be something similar, if it has a pump to carry away the waste water from the tank?
Dispite the Gov saying that ALL dwellings would be on mains drainage by 2007 or somewhat, reality said it was not going to happen here.

Could be right there. Micro treatment systems have constant running pumps. But these are only really useful if one is short of space for a normal system.

most aerias make u fit the air pump type now even if u use the herringbone drainage on outlet or the council surface water drain

Our tank is a brick-lined affair. '37 the house was built, so I'm assuming the tank is of a similar age. None of your fancy pumps - gravity does all the work (until someone flushes a wet wipe down the loo and brings the whole system to a halt. My drain rods have a pride of place next to the rodding point. They are the paddles you need when you're up sh*t creek. I've had to lift the concrete slab off the tank a few times when sorting out blockages. It does not smell as you would imagine. Not even all that bad.

I've heard prices of £150-£200 locally to empty an average tank.

Mine too is a 1930's brick lined tank. The level generally sits about 2' below the inspection cover, and as far as I know hasn't been emptied for at least 15 years, possibly longer. The discharged water ends up ultimately in a ditch at the edge of the property after soaking through a fair distance of soil under the garden. Never had a problem with the tank itself, although have had to rod out the drains leading to it after excessive toilet paper usage. I guess eventually the level will rise in mine due to the silt, grit and other solid stuff that won't degrade - but it's a good 10' x 4' x however deep it is (I haven't determined that) so it'll probably hold a fair amount and still work.
