septic tank digging out ?

some has been asked if he wants a dig out of his septic tank so say there are black disks that should be under metal grating the bloke qouted in the thousends plus poss there is repares might need to be done cost extra

having never owned a septic tank i cant advice but would like to help him not get done over any advice please

so im trying to say the right thing here the top grates removed the tank pumped out all the black disks removed and cleaned repair grates at the bottem (poss put in stainless steel parts) for fix

then top up with fresh water assume add bacteria

sound freasble and price qoute ?

Don't know what is meant by black disks ? But tank's don't need to be replaced unless the walls are collapsing. What needs doing is pumping it out to assess it. If effluent is coming to the surface, remove the pipe elbow and check that the pipe going to the leach field isn't clogged; which you can do by sticking a water hose in it and turning the tap on full. If no water comes flushing back after a few minutes, then the pipe and leach field are probably good. Get a second opinion from a different septic company.

The tank does not need to be topped up with fresh water, but before you pump out the tank, skim off a bucket full of the the floating bacteria for replacement after the tank is pumped.

I've had dealings with septic companies overseas, and each one tried to bull***t me about unnecessary expensive work.

Iam on a septic tank but I've never heard of black discs. I just pump mine out once a year.

bio disks. ive seen em with a load of black plastic balls floating on the top of the tank and air pumps i once went to on a callout and it all stank so i backhealed the job and didnt pay much attention to it

I think the black disks you refer to are one of a multitude of floating plastic objects that are in domestic sewage treatment by plants rather than septic tanks. Water from Treatment plants can I think go into a water course whereas septic tank requires a leach of field and I think from memory there are multiple chambers of which the chamber with the floating bits I don't think gets pumped out. It is a treatment chamber before the water enters the water course.

My septic tank is a milk bottle shaped concrete tank, single chamber. Dip tube in and dip tube out to a pipe which runs half a mile across a field to a ditch. Once I went 18 years between pump outs.
I use Muck Munchers sachets of bacteria once a month. I used to drop in road kill, especially rabbits, these days the road kill is too flat to pick up.
The only things in my tank are piddle, poop and paper.

The “DigOut” thought will be the crust on the top which shows that the bugs are doing their stuff and the process is working. When they pump the water from below it breaks up and get sucked out too.

You don't need to refill them, they refill them selves when you flush. I recently bypassed our old septic tank as we are too close to a water coarse for it to be legal. The old brick tank was filled with rubble, the plastic one had a ball float valve affair in a dip tube, but thats now full of rubble too.
The new one is a treatment plant with a small compressor bubbling through to help the bugs, we also add muck munchers type stuff now and then and use eco friendly bio products.

only empty'd once in 16 years, thats cos we sold up.....
never a mins problem....
the plastic ones unless they are deep need at least 1/2 filling with water pretty quick as they can float outta the ground....
have seen that a couple of times....it rips out the pipes and make a right mess..
the only other must have a a degreaser near the kitchen....

You have to fill with water at the same rate as you backfill. As you said they can float out the ground if not. But if you fill with water quicker than you backfill the tanks aren't strong enough and will break

Which is a different animal from a septic tank I would try to confirm if it is a Klargester digester and find their local agent for advice they are pretty simple devices with not much to go wrong but beware discharge consents are much stricter these days from the old leaky 'cesspits' masquerading as a 'septic tank' of my youth you do not want to fall foul of the local water company or Enviroment Agency these days although their inspectors were a fount of knowledge in my past experience.

This is the pic of the tank as you can see a few of the black disks are above the grates and the grates are uneven he said it need when having it emptied a dig out of all the grates cleaned and fixed clean all of the black disks cheaking underneath and then put back then refill with clean water

it will refill on its own. the only time its as bit dodgy is if the water table is 2 high and its in soft ground and can pop out under outside pressure just got ours emptied after 6 years for £ 180 .00

On a yard where I rent a unit off a farmer said farmer came and sucked the tank out and drove straight into a field and emptied said tank..
are you allowed to pump raw sewage on to fields without it being treated?

It overrules all conventional rules of physics, economics, good welding practice, road-worthiness, environmental issues, planning permission, etc. ad infinitum.
