I put my address and home phone number on the Mailing Preference Service This sounds like you are signing up to get more mail, but the opposite is true. Most reputable companies do abide by the list, obviously some dont. But i can safely say that since our number was put on, our spam telephone calls have been reduced by a good 75%. or more and we get much less junk mail than our relatives, though it isnt as effective as the telephone one.

Zardos, I registered my number with the tps ages ago but the buggers have started calling me again. Admittedly, I don't get as many but it's still annoying. We also get charities ringing up, worldwide fund for nature is one in particular, they ring two or three times a week asking for my wife, she used to have a direct debit giving them a few quid but she cancelled it. I've also registered on silentcallguard so hopefully that should stop even more.

One sure way to stop the call dead is to tell them your on the dole, thats what i do.
We had double glazing fitted (my dad and brother work for a company who makes them, so we fitted them our selves. The only way to do it and be confident its donr right and your not getting ripped off!) and then a few weeks later had a call asking if we needed new double glazing. "we've just had a full set fitted" says I. Not to be put off, the salesman says "are you thinking of changing them in the near future"!!

When they phone try and turn it round and sell them something...that will get them off the phone.

Or ask them to run through their full range of products / services, leave the phone and carry on with what you were doing, they run up their phone bill talking to themselves!
Just remember to hang up a few minutes later.

If they are a UK company thats an automatic £5k fine for each offence. Just tell em when they call you are on the TPS & they will shut up.

Hi Guys,

Yeah I am back from India, I got back on Friday morning......subsequently spent most of the weekend on the Loo! :full

In fairness, I was fine all week, so it must of been something I picked up on the last day or maybe even on the flight home.

It was a great experience tho, a complete sh*thole, but an amazing place to visit.
