selling on ebay ,import export charges ?

selling a myford on ebay, had an enquiry from Italy will I palletise if they arrange courier etc, I am happy enough to do this when the full payment has cleared into my account , but would/could I end up getting caught out on this ? is there any tax/charges liable to be paid and so on ? your thoughts experiance please. @fizzy is this something transport wise you would do ? cheers

tell your bank that you are concerned about wire fraud, and get them to tell you, in writing, in response to this, how long an international transfer must be held for, before it can bounce

i think American cheques can be bounced up to 7 years later...

dont take paypal for a pick up only item - you will have no accepted proof that you no longer possess the item

in fact, some old school one like western union may even be your best option - at least then you know that, when you have the cash in your hands, its in your hands...

Not sure if this helps, but since the UK left the EU, I have only made one high end ebay purchase from a EU Country. The import, delivery, and custom fees amounted to slightly over 30% in addition to my purchase price. That's my experience, and I would be confident that importing into the EU would incur a somewhat similar expense.

Not a week went by until brexit, that i didn't buy at least one item off ebay uk. Machine parts, motorcycle spares, tools, materials. Since the tariffs came in its been hugely expensive to buy anything off it. For me to buy something off ebay uk, i have to basically pay double the price. So a £50 item costs me, between charges, vat, currency difference, post about 90-95 euros.

Save yourself some potential grief. Must be plenty of domestic buyers around. In person pick up, money in your hand etc. If you achieve a couple of hundred less so be it.

It would be very very easy to get scammed, however, if you were, for example, to get a western union transfer (which is exactly what the scammers use, as its non returnable) then you are going to be pretty safe.

Once the job is picked up, its of no concern of the sellers (providing they havent ticked any boxes that say they will cover the taxes) what the taxes are.

I mean the potential for stress if you do it wrong is vast, but there are ways to make yourself safe. You just need to be entirely sure of what does, and does not leave you open.

Again, do not go anywhere near paypal, despite their excessive use of the word "safe".

The customer in Italy will need to pay VAT and the import clearance charge.
We can do the customs export paperwork as well as the shipping.
It helps if the Italian customer has an Eori number. Also cheaper to ship to a business address.

I now narrow down the search on eBay to uk only sellers, the same goods turn up from drop shippers without any surcharges or extras, I don’t know how they are getting around the system

One thing I would be wary about is that the buyer says it arrived damaged and requests a refund from ebay.
Ebay will likely give them it as they seem to land on the side of buyers very quickly and don't give a **** about the sellers.
Maybe I am just a bit to sceptical but I have heard Italy is one of the hotspots for this type of thing.

I've spoken with people in Italy before who have suffered as some retailers just won't ship product there at all, as it's not worth the bother.

It does not mean everything in the region is a problem, just that there are more problems than some other regions.

Thanks, pm sent . I will tell him its going to be expensive in the hope it will put him off or at least make him realise the full cost , which part attracts vat ? the whole price or just the transport ? cheers

your probably right , but if he bids to his self imposed limit considering the transport costs chances are some one in the uk will out bid that anyway , I am getting a quote from fizzy, will insist buyer pays direct into my account or otherwise his bid will be blocked.
must admit dont need the hassle these days really, but if you use it seems you get that sometimes.

Western Union have a clawback clause(the same as paypal).
We were in a similar situation selling a camper van to Germany, our bank suggested cash as even bank transfers can be recalled...
I personally wouldn't risk it.... once its gone its gone

Yes I have heard it before. Not sure how or why but it has been done somehow.
