Self tapping screw size for 3mm pilot

Just fitting a shower and think I want to change the screws that come with it (chrome plastic caps) for something a bit more on purpose.

Maybe these;

Or similar.

The existing screws are 3mm pilot and screw in nicely with that.

How would that translate to screw size....any ideas?

M4. Drill size for that is 3.3mm, if I recall correctly.

Thank you, that'll go in fine through the existing 3ish mm holes in soft aluminium.

Though I may go for British sizes, so, likely 8gauge....?

That is the tapping drill size for an ISO M4 x 0.7mm pitch threaded item.

The screws to which the link points are self-tapping, and of a coarser thread than 0.7mm.

Hence, it is not necessarily the case that 3.3mm is the correct diameter drill.

Thanks folks, 8gauge a bit bigger than the originals but will work well.

It'll always be a cheap shower door but a few £ on some better looking fasteners are worth it in my opinion.
