More likely to be a fail of the connection between them and the banking system so they couldn't process card payments.Last week when I visited there was an oppo at the door informing everyone entering cash only, maybe 80% of punters walking away![]()
You live where you live out of choice. But youll find you can payin cash to your bank at the post office, being very rural we had to learn these things a bit earlier.Hartlepool branch closed so was using Stockton. As you say stopped dealing with cash, Darlington was only option.

I let out a belly laugh to voice my approval.
I loath self checkouts and flat out refuse to be tolerant or polite to staff on them when they are not working if I have been forced to use them
None the less they are part of the problem, if it doesn't work they are the face of the company.What does being impolite and intolerant achieve other than causing harm to someone who has no control over the problems and has not caused the problems?
The staff on the shop floor didn't have any part in the decision to install self checkouts, the didn't design them, install them or write the software that runs them.
Poor customer behaviour towards staff is a reason to automate as much of the system as possible and remove staff from that harmful environment.
None the less they are part of the problem, if it doesn't work they are the face of the company.
The self checkouts at my nearest store have two staff by them all the time to sort out issues, as it’s mainly for those with baskets they may as well have them behind a till.
