So I've just bought one of these cameras as a first step into home security.

Can you access the SD card remotely or do you manually need to retrieve the card first?

You'd have to take the card out. But it can stream to a Windows file share or an FTP server (which I know isn't in everyone's experience).
You can also sign up a single camera to the manufacturer's free web storage and then view the videos online (so Reolink manage the storage for you - tinfoil hat wearers need not apply)

You can't *access* the MicroSD card directly as a "drive" remotely however using the app (either on phone or PC) allows you to view and download footage. Mine all save to an NVR however I've also got MicroSD in each for both redundancy and because the NVR doesn't integrate the alarms triggers from them so it's easier to "filter" by car/person/animal/movement etc.
Reolink *regularly* have sales. I'd go as far as to say they're a bit like DFS in that it's more usual for them *not* to have a sale on. Generally I've found buying direct is a tiny bit cheaper *but* not always the case.

The eufy cameras with memory cards you can access via your phone on a free app, works on 4g but faster on wifi, 64bg card will store approx 3 weeks of motion detected camera footage.
Tbh I never realised just how many cars and people go past my house everyday.

I've also got the Arlo ones too...the charges for their cloud are a bit nuts but the cameras are excellent. I'm amazed how long the battery lasts (rechargeable). Mine are only triggered on motion and pings my phone with a video clip...very handy and so far zero problems (they aren't cheap though)
I was looking at adding a newer style camera but as you say subscription for the later ones is a bit high. To be fair though it's worth it.
I've been very impressed with ours.

They seem to want £10 per camera per month...thats a bit nuts. But the system works perfectly fine without the cloud storage...it sends me a clip if there is motion detected which is all I really need.
Lovely cameras...and a good app too...allows me to easily remote monitor a house I'm sorting out at the moment.

Anyone got a link to info on me being able to stream this direct to my FreeNAS server? Not had much to do with CCTV (sod all actually) but I picked one of these up when they were £35
Ahh, I thought it was mandatory to have the cloud storage, good to know it works without.
