i have just bought a toolex mig welder form ebay i just want to know what things to look for? what parts break, what parts might not work? anything else i should look at when buying a second hand mig? also is toolex a good brand?
The Toolex MIG I have seen reminded me of a 150amp SIP - yeah, it looked like a rebadged SIP. (It's only a distant memory now - I could be wrong)
The major area for SIP's to "watch out for" is the wirefeed. (needs to be smooth/consistent)
Hmmm now that I think about it, even if Toolex is not a rebadged SIP, checking that the wirefeed is smooth on a secondhand compact MIG might be one of the best things to "watch out for".
If there is any resistance on the wirefeed (significantly higher than normal) then the smaller wirefeed motors (sometimes combined with less-than-ideal controller circuits) have trouble pushing the wire through at a constant speed and that really kills the performance of the MIG.
