Seat Ibiza won't start when hot?

Some years ago I had a Vauxhall Carlton, Loved it too!!

I've had one of those, but a basic model. Big and comfy, although not particularly fast [in 2-litre form] - but that matters less when it's filled with family and all the associated paraphernalia. Metallic blue of some description, iirc.

Yep I also had a big old Carlton estate 2.0 auto great car before Vauxhall started making lemons!

I had a similar problem a few years ago (not ibiza) but like yours it started fine when cold but after engine stopped, it would not start again until it cooled down a bit. I checked compression(cold), and all sensors etc, cleaned things, changed plugs/coil packs etc etc etc

In the end, it turned out to be head gasket failure or perhaps hairline crack in block somewhere, coolant was definitely getting into cylinder(s) (when hot), which prevented initial combustion.

the penny dropped when I noticed (after keeping it constantly running for 2-3 hours) the coolant level dropping in coolant expansion bottle and the white smoke from exhaust did not stop

hopefully not your issue, but cant rule it out

Sorry, way too busy last few days. So finally it started playing up, wouldn't start, stalling at tickover, throwing a wobbly. Today plugged into vagcom, the immobiliser issue is the transponder / aerial which has an intermittent fault, which was replaced 'allegedly' by the garage less than 9 months ago. The stalling at low tickover is apparently the cam shaft sensor. There's poor combustion in 1st and 3rd cylinder and its not got 100 k miles on it so another sensor or 3 is / are giving up. Decking electrics. I looked under the bonnet looking for a dizzy cap and points and rotor arm.
@migmag , I learnt today you need to diagnose modern cars. No more poking around in the dark, see what the car thinks is the problem....

To resurrect an old thread.

So in the end it turns out the hydraulic chain tensioner had died. No cam belt, chain drive. No chain tension, the computer was throwing a wobbly as all the sensors were not making sense.

Changed all the sensors, gave it back to my parents, following week, died. It had jumped a tooth, not enough to kill the engine, enough for it to no longer start.

Parents garage tried for a fortnight to find the fault and failed. I low loaded it to a competent garage, and 800 euros later fixed.

Currently using it as a runaround as my parents want to make sure it works properly.
