Seamless brass desks/tables

Hi there,
I am looking for a bit of help please.
Does anybody know how these are fabricated?

Brass sheet and welded seams? TIG I guess?
Why have they not distorted all over the place, like a wobbly mirror?
What filler rod would be best for CW505 (CZ106) - if that is best suited to welding

I have TIG'ed bronze before and it worked very well giving a seamless join once finished, but I am interested in how these are made....

Maybe it is a case of welding the seams and sanding and polishing flat....?
It that possible with brass?

I worked on these before (bronze), but I have never worked with brass, and I imagine it would distort to some degree....?

The issue with brass is usually zinc volatisation as brasses melt in the 900 - 1000°C range depending on flavour and are upto 40+ % zinc which boils at 907°. Best bet for filler with TIG would be one of the brazing wires like phosphor bronze (sif #8) or silicon copper (sif #968). Colour match probably won't be great if polishing them. Shearing strips from the parent sheet is my usual solution for colour match on copper alloys but ain't like to end well with on brass as it'd basically be like trying to use oxyfuel brazing rods with TIG- lots of smoke and spitting as all the zinc boils off

I wondered the same thing.
I thought perhaps it was soldered from the inside. I wonder what the wall thickness is?

I am quite intrigued by them and would love to know how they are made. They look fantastic and 'look' expertly made.

What's to say they are even welded? Could they be moulded?

I do the odd bit of folding for a local guy, makes fancy furniture with copper and brass. Usually fold as much as possible, then weld and polish back any visible joins, using strips of the sheet as filler to get a colour match. Non visible joints he silver solders I believe.

As hotrodder mentioned, the worst bit is the zinc burning off, doesn't look that pretty just welded, but once polished back its usually fine.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, I don't really fancy the zinc issues to be honest. Maybe it is something I turn down.

There are loads of Brass/bronze/copper items coming from the high-end design houses, so it would be interesting to know how they put them together. I know those tables are VERY expensive - many thousands.

I'll try and get hold of some scraps to play around with.
