Hi all, looking to see if anyone has any opinions on these machines. This will be my first mig to use at home. I spent a long time considering an arc welder for ease of installation/setup, but since I have more experience with a gas mig I'm thinking it'll be worth the long-term investment. Sealey MightyMig Sealey SuperMig 150 Clarke 151TE My thinking was the more powerful machines (for household plugs at least) might be more versatile in the long-run, especially with welding the higher end of 6/8mm, but I could be wrong here. I'm used to using larger Lincoln machines so this is my first foray into home welding. Any advice would be appreciated!
I think your being a bit optimistic if your hoping for a single pass weld on 6-8mm with a 150 machine, of a 13 amp plug. i think 5mm will pushing them to their limit .
cheaper same machine as the red clarke https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/mig151en-turbo-no-gas-mig-welder/
none of those machines will weld 6mm too 8mm sorry its going to be an arc welder or a more expensive mig welder oxford type of machine mines an older cebora 195 that will weld that thickness
Yep, 6 mm plus will need a 200Amp MIG machine What about one of those small MMA inverters to get you started; cheap, nice arc, might last a year? This kind of thing, although take the max. with a pinch of salt: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Ele...871428?hash=item523f183d44:g:ABYAAOSwe5VfkFP- There's a recent thread on here about them which was very positive. https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/impressed-by-mini-arc-set.103444/
Thanks for all your help. It would be 6-8mm round bar as oppose to plate, would that make any difference or still struggle?
