Sealey Supermig 140 - Eurotorch Conversion. Almost there!

mike 109444 - your wiring diagram was spot on. I finally got it sorted, with the help of an electrician who looked at your diagram with a furrowed brow for 20 seconds and said - "yep, that'll work fine" - So basically, the live was taken from the scotch lock connector at the bottom of the chassis, and the neutral went to the blue/white braided wire that goes from the black block on the PCB to the transformer. He said it was protected by a relay, and indeed, it works a treat I've got nice 6mm bore gas piping throughout now, which means I can get more than 10l/min gas output if I need it (I couldn't before), and it welds very nicely in all with the rearranged wire feed stuff

Hi Sharpy1971. I only did it because my other torch was knackered, and the conversion was cheaper than the original torch to be honest! I must say that it's a lot better though, and worth the time I spent on it. I'd probably actaully get a 3 meter torch instead though, because the earth lead is only 3 meters in any case, and the 4 meter torch is quite unwieldy being quite stiff etc!

It does weld a lot better though, and there's a nice positive feel on the trigger, which is actually a massive improvement over the blancmange feeling I got from the original torch haha!!

If you need a hand with any info or photos, let me know. The lid is semi-permenently off at the moment after a breize block fell on it from 8 foot up and caved the it in (during the storms!)

Hi mate I know it's ages a since you done this but you wouldn't have any photos of the connections you used would you? I have the exact same welder and I'm in the same predicament with the gas valve.

Here is the latest PCB as fitted to the Sealey supermig 140, it is different to earlier ones, it even came with a 3pin plug fitted instead of bare wires.
I am trying to fit a euro torch to it but am stuck trying to find a 240volt wire that works when I use the trigger. Any help would be great, I have a digital multimeter etc and the mig gas valve I am trying to use is 240volt.

I also tried using the case/chassis for the earth as was put on here But it keeps tripping the rcd! So will not be using that idea.

The black relay on the board is either switching live or neutral - so if it’s switching live take the neutral from the switch ( only from the on side - and if it’s switching neutral take live from the switch
