Was thinking of getting this welder in my home workshop.

Anyone used this welder, or have any opinions of it?

A grand on a Sealey???!!!!
In Fairness, it is a synergic one so lots of bells and whistles but do you really need all those features for home use?

I want a versatile machine. That will last. I am no welder, but I am hoping to learn. Is it worth the money?

I like project work, but mainly have been machining. I want to start making the frames instead of doing things up. Of course I don't expect to be welding stuff I am riding on overnight.

The current plan for the welder is welding brackets to a frame I am having custom built, and sheet metal battery boxes for the same project.

I would like this to cover most my welding needs up to about 6mm.

That welder is overkill for you to be honest, the electronic (synergic) controls allow you to input the metal thickness, wire size and type of joint etc and it sets the machine parameters accordingly.
You'll get a suitable machine for an awful lot less money than that one.
Power wise, you're about on the minimum for 6mm.
Portamig do a 235A one for under £700. They're simple, no-frills machines and are built to order in York to a high standard with first-rate aftersales support.
