I bought one of those titan 240v SDS demo hammer and drill jobbys from screwfix some 16yrs ago mainly as a backup for £45,its been kicked,dropped from 40ft high,left out in the rain for days,abused,chucked,sworn at,it leaks grease when over worked,it has no clutch(learn to back off before it takes a grip) nor reverse,it'll drill through lintels brick concrete you name it etc
Know what,the damn thing wont die

I bought A Bosch SDS before the rotary stop function was added and would like to buy a newer model but am loath to as the old one is still perfect

If its heavy duty breaking or drilling then SDS Max is the way to go, if its rapid drilling/chiseling up to 30mm in concrete then a decent Sds plus is sufficient. I would choose a used Hilti over anything new on offering nowadays although the new breakers have hours counters that need resetting which makes it a pain on new Hilti range.
I have an older Sds plus 110v Milwaukee heavy duty impact drill with roto stop function, a similar 240v bosch sds plus and they would be my choice as they are light and fast however i also have a 9kg makita breaker with sds Max chisels which makes drilling large holes and concrete breaking an easy job ! For drilling up a ladder then its the 28v 5Ah Milwaukee Sds plus battery operated hammer drill as its so much easier ! Choose right the first time, as Kayos mentioned, tech has moved a bit in the last years especially battery tools !

I have a 110 volt Bosch SDS that's 20 years old and still going strong, it's been used at work for years and only needed a replacement bit holder in the chuck after I used it (abused it) for a year on a job drilling 25mm holes the single double and triple joists.
I've only replaced it as I wanted the rotor stop function for chasing walls and didn't want to keep dragging the 110 volt transformer around the house I'm renovating. What did I replace it with?



Edit: I'm not getting rid of the old one!

I bought a B&Q own brand jobby about 10-15years ago, not expecting it to last long, from memory it cost me about £20, it’s done a phenomenal amount of work and gone through pretty much everything I’ve tried to send it through. Its one that has hammer drill and hammer only function. It's very crude and as such is a bit wild to control but the hammer power is amazing. Pulled it apart not too long ago to clean half a ton of dust out of it and regrease. Bet the new ones aren’t like that.

I’ve got a very old TE30 and that is a beast - that’s got a hex profile from memory.

I’ll look for a used new TE30 as I couldn’t justify £500+ odd quid.

ive got one of those newer model in pieces as i had fun finding a trigger replacement still not repaired as no trigger for it yet

The Titan has over twice the impact energy, 50% bigger motor at 1/10th the price. You could just use and abuse the Titan and treat it as a disposable tool.

When on site and on a tight timetable
The costs associated with a tool going down often far outweigh buying a better tool in the beginning.

I have 3 bosch gbh 4dfe breakers .im only on the first and all are second hand, the most I paid for them was one at 80 quid virtually new of ebay there high frequency so they don't knock the crap out of bricks I have used it daily for the last 5 years for concrete I have a 900 kango hammer and I have had that donkeys years .I just keep it well serviced I only paid 50 quid for that now there fetching big money and are like rockinghorse poo to get
